We placed a late bet on Bated Breath as we wanted to watch the 15:05 as connections of Penitent informed us the jockey had been instructed to race up the far side on the fresh ground. We thought that Penitent ran a solid race and was in front when approaching the two pole. It was not until the furlong marker that Penitent was caught, but we think this is as a result of stamina running out following the step-up in trip. On face value the ground looked ok, hence the bet on Bated Breath.

Bated Breath jumped the gates well and led the far side runners until the two pole. Just inside the two furlong marker it all went pear-shaped as the stand-side runners went past with ease whilst the other horses, including Bated Breath, were going backwards on the new ground. Unfortunately the rather large draw bias seemed to have doomed us as soon as we selected a side. A quick recap with connections revealed that the jockey, Steven Drowne, was very happy until two out and was of the opinion that Bated Breath would have gone very close until hitting the change in ground.

Bated Breath was backed heavily before the off as both connections and ourselves thought that the 9/1 with Bet365 was great value. The eventual SP was 9/2. We took a bit of a gamble with Bated Breath but it did not pay-off. The winner, Margot Did, is not a Group 1 horse and has only one a few soft listed races. Margot Did was fortunate in being on the better side of the draw and running with the early pace, nothing was coming from off the pace as we thought. Put a line through this form as we do not feel it representative of the horse’s true capabilites.

The meeting is turning into a bookies dream following today’s results at 33/1, 20/1 and 18/1. This follows on from some big prices yesterday. It’s a great shame that another big UK meeting has been undermined by a draw bias over sprint distances. We think that the ground is responsible as York is usually very fair. I don’t think that we’ll be rushing into bets at York tomorrow as the ring is ankle deep in ripped up tickets at the moment.

We backed one horse, Irish Heartbeat, with 1pt E/W who ran a fair race. One furlong out I thought we were going to be in the money as Hanagan had a nice run in between two horses and briefly joined the leader of the race. From then on our bet did not quicken and stayed on at the same pace until the finish line. The horse was beaten around two and a bit lengths.

The jockey reported after the race that he thought he was going to win at a furlong out as the horse was travelling really well, but that finishing burst was not found. He also suggested because the horse travelled so well it maybe better to run on seven furlongs and attempt to make all. Irish Heartbeat was quite well backed and went off at 8/1; we got the 12/1 so there was the advantage of having a value bet.

We placed two bets at the York Dante meeting with zero run for our money on Rose Blossom who got smashed up as the stalls opened and the bet just mentioned. Not a huge amount of damage was done as both bets were only to small stakes, but we still don’t like losing. We are now just over 10pts up for the month and this is the minimum target we set ourselves each month, so we’re still on track.

The just info however did well with Bapak Chinta winning. Little Rocky and Abdicate finished first & second respectively. The best part was Crassula who so nearly beat the odds on 1/3 shot; another stride and he would have won after being backed down from 33/1 into 16/1.

Normal service is restored.

After eight solid weeks of making great profits, the brilliant run had to come to an end at some point for members. It did just that over the past week as we had a change in fortune. Members were advised to back two horses within a couple of days, both of which unfortunately broke down in running. There is nothing you can do about this except just take it on the chin and move on. Then we almost landed another big priced winner, but the horse didn’t get going until it was too late, and in the end we were beaten by less than a length at 16/1, although clients did get a return on the E/W money.

I will put my hands up for the Saturday just passed, where in all fairness we made a mistake in placing a bet. The ground was much softer than reported by the course and our selection could not handle it. After running a poor race, we were staring at three losers on the bounce (shock horror!). Thankfully we were playing to small stakes.

On Sunday though we received information from our best contact who once again came up with the goods. The message was simple as that “the horse would win”, and so it proved when Khorun won with any amount in hand (the winning distance was 15 lengths). The price was not the best, even money, but this was a big gamble.

Today, the day before the start of the big Ebor meeting at York, we had information on a horse that connections backed in the hope of a successful run. We were informed the horse had its ideal conditions, whilst the drop in class would benefit. I’ve been asked not to name the horse on the website for different reasons I can reveal it landed a great punt, winning at 8/1!

Back to normal and a lovely bet landed. This now gives us plenty of ammunition for the Ebor meeting.

Hope you enjoyed the racing at York today!

It was a good day for BetterTipster members as our account bet on Sariska won with little fuss at a SO of 3/1. We knew all about this horse many months ago when our contact spent the day with Michael Bell in a interview. He could not hide his thoughts on this one. We did not have a big bet on the demo account as I was not at a computer and hence had to place it over the phone (I prefer being at a computer to check the market etc.).

The step up in trip was perfect, proving the trainer made the right decision to come stright here over the longer trip rather than go for the guineas. There was a doubt about the ground as her family do prefer a bit of cut, but she seemed to handle it well, whilst the steady pace did not really suit.

As normal we spoke with the trainer after the race who said he was very happy and also commented she is still improving and has left a bit to work on. Her coat was also a little shabby and will improve.

You also all have had a email telling you to back this horse antepost for the Oaks at around 14-1 went out two weeks ago. 3 points ew.

The horse is now best priced at 4/1 on betfair, but mostly 3/1 with the high street bookmakers.

If you wish to lay your initial stake off I would do so now and have a free bet on the race or even lock in a profit. I don’t think she will go much shorter than she is at the moment.
