We placed a 3pts win bet on Truckers Benefit from the Tim Vaughan yard. The horse opened up at 11/8 at ten minutes before the off; that was the price that we took.
Truckers Benefit was smashed up in the betting and retuned an SP of 6/5. Unfortunately the horse ran a complete stinker and was pulled up.

From the off Truckers Benefit raced with his head down, swishing his tail and showing a complete dislike to everything around him. Jockey Richard Johnson never looked happy at any stage, and so it proved, with the horse falling back out of site from 4 out. The jockey reported after the race that the horse felt different to his two bumper performances where he finished second when running well over a trip that was far too short. The horse will be scoped at the track but Richard thinks he had a terrible attitude and did not want to race.

It may have been the hurdles that the horse took a dislike to or, more likely, he’s not ready which would explain why he has only placed each time out. Either way, it was a horrific performance. Tim is great at improving horses from other trainers but we think that he has his work cut out with this one. What’s more frustrating is that Tim has won three other races today.
Below are comments from Charlie Longsden when interviewed:
Getmeoutofthedoldrums represents the in-form Charlie Longsdon in the 2.10, and he said:

“He is what he is, and shouldn’t be good enough to beat the Tim Vaughan horse [Truckers Benefit] but we will see.”
By David Baxter, live from Worcester (2 hours ago)

We were informed this morning that the Longsden horse was not fancied and the above would confirm this. Akbabend won in what was a three horse race. The other danger was second, but not fancied. Our bet did not show up and ran a stinker.

Quick review of our account bet. We backed Present Your Case 3pts win at 6/4. We’re pleased to say the horse won as it liked by 5 lengths hard held; jockey Richard Johnson never moved a muscle. Good stuff from the Vaughan stable lets hope for plenty more in the coming weeks.

Cracking day for us with Beshabar landing the Scottish National in great style. Richard Johnson gave the horse a great ride, Beshabar settled early and making it a right old test as planned. Led from start to finish burning everything off, never looked in any danger. Chicago Grey was never sighted once race to many.

Really pleased for Tim Vaughan as he is an excellent trainer who has done brilliantly with his summer jumpers. Now, with some better horses going into the yard, he proves he can train with the best of them. This win will be the first of many from the Vaughan yard during the summer months.

Our other bet, Suhaili, lost the race very early after starting very keenly; pulling his way to the front. This is one reason why we’ve only had two bets this week; the flat racing is so difficult at the start of the new season, it really does take until the end of May before you can bet with any real confidence. It’s the same every year and we just have to be patient. I’ll admit that it was a bit annoying watching World Domination hack up, but I have no complaints thanks to the performance from Beshabar.

We’ve had just two bets all week, but it’s been a good week with around 12 points profit. We’re already nicely in front for the month but this win makes it a really solid one. As normal we aim for 10pts per month profit, 120 points per year, and we are above that at the moment.

We placed one account bet today on Quito De La Roque who finished second.

We should have been in the queue at the payout counter if it was not for one critically poor jumping error as the race started to get going. Quito De La Roque was travelling well and seemed to be almost hugging the rail in a comfortable third place when he made a bad error, catching his hind legs in the fence and nearly coming down as a result. We lost a lot of momentum and around six lengths in distance. Nevertheless I admire the determination of the jockey who recovered the horse from the indecent and never gave up.

Jumping the last we were in 4th place, about 5 lengths adrift, but Quite De La Roque’s stamina kicked in and we flew over the last passing all others in the field but just failing on the line. Another two strides would have won or were it not for the bad jumping error would have definitely collected.

The horse was really well backed into 100/30, though we got the early price of 5/1 (advised E/W) and because we got in before the money came the place money returned the win stake. It’s a shame that we did not collect on our first bet for a while because of the cold spell that forced many of the major meetings to be postponed/cancelled. The main thing is that the information was correct because the horse ran a good race despite being flustered early on. Hopefully we can make up for lost time now with some good racing in the next few days.

The ‘Just Info’ horse Next Exit finished 4th. I have spoken with an expert on Tim Vaughan’s horses who informed me the horse blew up two out after going very well. Tim’s horses have been short of work during the bad weather as there has been plenty of snow in Wales. It may be the case that they need another couple of weeks to return to pre-winter form.

A reasonable profit was made yesterday from our two account bets; one winner and one second place.

Our first bet at Stratford was On Borrowed Wings from the Alan Fleming yard. Timmy Murphy gave the horse a very canny hold up ride; last all the way round until two out where Timmy asked the horse to quicken. On Borrowed Wings made up the ground easily and drew level at the last before going away to win on the run in. This is our first bet of the season from this yard and a winning one at that.

Our second bet was on Captain Chris who finished 2nd. The issue here was that the ground changed significantly at Chepstow between the time we sent out the selection and the race-off. The rain was pouring and as a result the going changed to soft. Captain Chris was nearly pulled out by the trainer, but a late decision was made to run.

The run by Captain Chris was ok, but the conditions meant that the ground underneath was very sticky. Richard Johnson let the horse come home in his own time. At the last he gave it a few slaps to secure second place. This is not the true form of the horse and a totally different prospect will be seen on a firmer going.

The just info has also been performing well with many winners; 8/1, 7/2, 5/2 and many more. Yesterday’s just info was also reasonable with Hibiki cantering too victory. I think if Ruby Walsh was on Poquelin, the horse would have won as he should have been pushed on at two out when approaching Monet’s Garden. Medermit also won easily at short odds. The only horse that let the side down was Quintessentially who ran a poor race but was well backed.

Tim Vaughan would have been disappointed with his runners. Alverstone won at a nice price and he also had the second place, but as for the jockey on Bens Moor, I did not think he stayed the three miles.
