Firstly the sad news; Mille Chief, our notebook horse, has sadly been put down after breaking a leg in a routine piece of work on Saturday. This is a huge loss for both Mr King and the owners as this horse was top class. We have passed on our condolences.
We had two bets on Saturday. Our first selection was Society Rock. This will not take long to review as we had zero run for our money. The draw of stall two turned out to be the worst possible as the runners came over the other side. Society Rock needs holding up and cover. From the three pole we were totally boxed in with nowhere to go. Despite travelling well at two-out, the leaders kicked on and our horse was stuck in behind not being able to make a move.
A big thank you to Bryan Smart though who, once again, was brilliant. Although I’ve not checked back at the results, I don’t think he has given us a horse that has lost in all of the seven/eight bets.
Verinco did what it said on the tin. It broke fast, led the entire race and won with bit to spare in the end. At one point it looked like the other side had the advantage but the camera angle is deceptive at Catterick and this turned out not to be the case. Verinco was well backed into 3/1 and a nice little gamble was landed.

It’s going to be rather difficult not to turn this month’s review into a big sales pitch as it was so successful for us.
Two of the most important flat meetings took place in June: the Epsom Derby and, arguably the biggest, Royal Ascot. Lets start with the Derby meeting; we backed three horses, two of them were antepost. Firstly members were instructed to back Captain Dunne antepost who ran in the Epsom dash at 7/1. We had a very positive word after being told first-hand that the horse was still improving and that headgear would be applied because the trainer thought this would help him concentrate in the latter stages of the race.
It was a great start to the meeting as everything went to plan; Captain Dunne led from start to finish and landed the spoils as well as a great bet for members at 7/1. Even to small stakes this one bet alone would have paid for an entire months subscription. Next up was a strong selection; St Nicholas Abbey. So far this has been one of the biggest bets of the year for us as we were informed directly at the track by connections that the horse was back to his best. A strong win bet was advised at odds against. Clients had no worries as we watched St Nicholas Abbey win with plenty left in the tank even further increasing our profits for the meeting. Our only other bet at the meeting was Native Khan in the Derby who was advised at big odds antepost. The horse finished 5th but was only beaten by a couple of lengths.
All eyes were then on Royal Ascot where we had a antepost bet on a horse at 33/1. This bet was placed two weeks before Royal Ascot. Our first bet was a decent one on Shumoos who was just beaten in a photo finish; with a better draw the horse would have won. We then had three further bets that resulted in a loser and two placed E/W bets at 6/1 & 13/2.
Finally, on the last day of Royal Ascot, we had our antepost bet running in the Golden Jubilee. The horse we backed was Society Rock at 33/1. If you remember this horse finished 2nd in the same race last year but seemed to have lost his form since. We had a piece of first-hand racing information from the yard that stated the horse was now back to 100% for the first time this season and that his first two runs could be totally ignored. The horse was going so well at home it was a struggle to pull him up on the gallops.
In the build up to the race Society Rock was given little or no chance by the papers and pundits. However we knew that the horse had a chance if the appropriate breaks came. Society Rock was held up, as normal, but at two out the jockey asked Socity Rock to go through a very small gap and thankfully the horse put his head down and quickened immediately; making up lengths and hitting the front inside the final furlong to win under a fantastic ride by Pat Cosgrove.
Scenes of jubilation were had at BetterTipster towers with the phone immediately ringing from members who had landed a huge payout. Many people will never back a 33/1 winner, but to do it in one of the main sprint races of the year made it all the more sweet. Many phone calls and emails were received with clients winning up to six thousand pounds on this one bet alone as well as others buying new cars and nice holidays with the winnings. A fantastic Royal Ascot and a great profit made in June.
We were not quite finished though as on Saturday the 25th we were informed that Dominant was thought of being a group horse but had not shown his best ability as yet because he needed the soft ground and a flatter track. Dominant was highly fancied, the price was big at 6/1 and so we decided to send out the bet. The result was that Dominant won easily by 5 lengths easily. Another great bet landed and even more profits added.
To summarize, in June we make a profit upwards of 50pts and again keep our 100% monthly record this year. With only £10 stakes our June selections would have made a lovely £500 tax-free income.

Today turned out nicely; Society Rock winning at 25/1, I guess that will do.
For the first time this year we looked like making a loss at a major meeting as we went into the last day of Royal Ascot 5pts down. Shumoos was our major bet of the meeting who failed by a whisker to land us a nice profit after we took a good price on him the day before. We also had a 10/1 3rd and a 6/1 E/W 3rd as well as two losers. We were close to a nice profit but things did not go quite as well as we would have liked.
Saturday came with two bets, one on Society Rock who we backed antepost. First up though was Fort Bastion who we backed at 6/1 and who eventually went off at 9/2 after plenty of strong support. The horse ran a cracker but met a stronger opponent, Maybe, who looks a good filly. We finished 2nd, well clear of the 3rd and placed horses. Take Maybe out of the race and we would have won easily. The E/W part of the bet was a winner and small profit was made.
Next up was Society Rock who we advised antepost the week before Ascot. With soft ground and a poor draw our confidence was not high going into the race. What we did know was that the horse was back to last seasons form and doing some cracking work on the gallops. Society Rock was also a proven group performer, finishing 2nd in this race last year.
The race itself did not start well; we jumped out slow and then got into a barging match with two other horses and a few words were exchanged between jockeys. Pat Cosgrove did find a nice slot and made sure that we did not get far back of the main leaders; it was vital we had pace on our side of the draw.
At two out we were going well and things started to look up, but we needed the gap. We’re not sure why the horse was trading at 419/1 on Betfair. The gap appeared and Pat gave his all when going for home; forcing Society Rock through a small gap and quickening well before hitting the front and going away at the finish.
It was a fantastic result that was the result of a fantastic ride and a heart-stopping race. This meant that we landed a huge 25/1 bet with some clients getting 33/1 & 28/1.
We finished the meeting with a profit of 26pts. This maintains our record of winning at all the major meetings this year. Before Ascot we had a great Epsom meeting, 17pts up, but this really puts the icing on the cake for the month of June with over 40 points profit.

We have placed just one more bet this week at the Newmarket meeting. The horse was Society Rock who has previously done us a massive favour when he finished 2nd at 50/1 in the Jubilee sprint. Unfortunately Society Rock pulled too hard and ruined his chance this time despite finishing fast. Keep with Society Rock, I think that a big sprint win is not far away.
On Saturday we placed one bet on a runner at Nottingham who failed to handle the firm going. Various Jockeys have reported the ground was riding like the M1, our selection did not enjoy it at all and was running with very high knee action. Unfortunately the horse returned jarred up and sore. We need softer ground for this one to show its best!
This put us at a slight loss for the week, and our first losing week in seven. Luckily today, Sunday, our best contact came in with information of a horse running over the jumps that did the business with no problems at all. The Ferbane Man won at 11/10 for clients; this recouped the money lost at Newmarket and ensured the roll contained. Out of the last seven weeks, five have been winning weeks and two have seen us break even.

One bet today on Society Rock 1pt EW.
The horse finished unplaced after slowly coming out of the stalls. It was in last place with two furlongs to go, even though it got stopped twice when trying to make its move. The steed finished fast, but it was all too late against the quality of its opposition. We’re not sure where the horse will go next, but I do think Society Rocks can win a big race.
I am glad this meeting is over now, as it has become as hard-as-nails to find a winner. I refuse to give big bets out at these big flat fixtures, as you don’t only need excellent info, but you also need lots of luck. So much has to be taken into account with the draw and the dam going stick. At the start of each meeting you just have no idea where you want your runners to be. It truly is difficult…
