Quick look back at yesterday’s account bet on Bowntobebad. The horse was travelling well during the early parts of the race but unfortunately stopped as if he ran into a brick wall. Bowntobebad lost ground very quickly and was allowed to walk back home in his own time. The cause of this poor performance was a burst blood vessel that caused the horse to bleed from the nose. If you watch the reply on ATR you can see this.

There’s nothing anybody can do when this happens; it’s really unlucky but can’t be predicted or prevented.

The Just Info did reasonably well; Somersby ran a cracker but again looks as if he needs three miles. Overturn won whilst Off The Wall was 3rd at a good price in the bumper. The Alan King horse was 4th. Turn Over Sivola is the horse to take out of the race; travelling well before blowing up in the final furlong.

Midnight Game also ran a solid race; the horse we backed for the Supreme Hurdle. Midnight Game was cantering into the last with only one other horse in contention; the two a long way clear. On landing his only rival landed sideways. A collision then proceeded and we lost all momentum and failed to get back up whilst also running green.

The trip over two miles four would be stretching Midnight Games stamina and the soft ground was not ideal. However this was a good run and shows the engine that the horse holds. Two miles on good ground will reveal the true ability of Midnight Game.

Another cracking day for us with Dominant winning at 13/2 with any amount in hand.

Dominant broke really well from the stalls; jockey Neil Callan had to take a good pull as the horse needs holding at the start. We were running in 3rd until about two out when Neil Callan angled Dominant towards some daylight; the response was immediate with the horse putting the race to bed in a matter of strides.

We won by 6 lengths in the end in a time well under the norm. Considering today’s ground it was a very special & smart performance indeed; Dominant looks a group class horse with the correct conditions.

This was great work from our main info contact who was at Newmarket; a big thanks to Roger who always speaks with us when we bump into him. Really pleased for Roger Varian who is in his first season as a trainer since taking over from Mr Jarvis.

Our other bet was Overturn who ran a solid race but only managed to finish 6th in the end. We looked the winner at two out; the horse was running well whilst all other runners were in trouble. Unfortunately Overturn faded in the final furlong; I think the ground was just that bit too soft for him as he could never quite get away from the field like he did at Chester.

No matter though as Dominant won us another 5pts. June 2011 has been one of the most successful months that we’ve had since the service commenced in January 2009.

May Update!

Time for an update of our results for May:

It goes without saying that May is a very tough month with frisky two year olds making debuts and warm weather making it hard for horses to work on the grass gallops. This is the reason BetterTipster took it’s first break since January 2009 (when the service went public). We would much prefer to hold back and let everything calm down before playing our cards. We took a weeks break to recharge our batteries and all members were told a month in advance.

We have placed a few carefully selected bets, so, how did members do?

Well, we continued our 100% winning month record for May by producing 8pts profit; this was a fair return since we only really operated for just two weeks out of four. The horses that did the job for us were Overturn at 6/1 and Bourne at 10/11 (who was a strong bet). These two results kept things ticking over nicely and kept members happy for the fifth month in a row.

Our running yearly total now stands at 30 points to level stakes and just over 71 points to recommended stakes. Bear in mind that we have had only 51 bets this year, so to level stakes that is a 160% ROI.

With some big meetings now on the horizon June will be a big month with the Epsom Derby & Royal Ascot upon us.

We placed one account bet on Bourne; our strongest bet for quite a while. It’s pleasing to say that Bourne got the job done for us at 4/5, finishing off a good week in the process. Bourne was very heavily backed all day and returned an SP of 8/11.

The race was not ran to Bourne‘s strengths and the pace was very slow. Our selection traveled well but soon put the race to bed inside the final furlong. The winning margin was a couple of lengths but don’t let that fool you about how much this horse had left in the tank. Bourne needs a fast pace over one mile four as well as good ground. Yesterday’s trip would be the bare minimum for the horse but the end result was perfect; his rating can’t go up that much but it will enable him to get in the Ebor.

With a furlong to go I was amazed his price on Betfair touched just over 2/1; who or why people were laying him I have no idea. It just goes to show you how people who don’t do their homework make huge mistakes. Bourne must be produced late and quickens up well. If you knew about the horse it was clear he was going to win.

This tops off a good week with just two account bets and both winning as we backed Overturn earlier in the week at 11/2. The ‘Just Info’ also played its part this week with our main info guy being nothing short of brilliant; 7 winners all at nice prices including a 16/1 2nd and not forgetting Spirit Of Adjisa winning at 16/1. On top of this we made a great call yesterday on our Twitter page where we tipped Hawkeyethenoo at 15/2 who came home first.

We are now just under 15pts up for May. If somebody said we would make 20pts in April and could take 15pts in May I would have snapped their hand off. These are two very tough months where the majority will lose.

I’m pleased to say that Overturn won quite easily for us and led from start to finish in the Chester cup; never really looked in any danger. We achieved an even better price with the SP being 11/2 and as a result of BOG offers members achieved that slightly increased price also. The race went perfectly from start to finish just as we were told by trainer Donald McCain.

Overturn broke well and set a good pace. Everything else was struggling then Eddie slowed it down to recover some breathe. Exactly half a mile from home he kicked on leaving all other jockeys sleeping. A great start to May for us, continuing our great start to the year.

The ‘Just Info’ also performed well; Captain Dunne just touched into second at 16/1, Brown Panther winning at 5/1 and Wonder of Wonders, which we put on the twitter page, won at 6/5 after being backed in from 13/8.

We’ve had a few emails from people who did the lucky 15 E/W and accumulator on Overturn, Captain Dunne, Brown Panther and Wonder of Wonders which returned a decent four figure sum. A lovely day and thank you for all the emails.
