First up was Khyber Kim, a long time favourite of ours, who, in all fairness, ran a shocker. We spoke with connections last night who said he was beaten after two hurdles and never got going at any point in the race. After the race the jockey commented that even prior to the start something didn’t feel correct.
I wish there was an explanation other than it just looks like the horse had an off day (as we all do at times). Ultimately we had a poor start to the day.
Finally we got around to our antepost bet on Riverside Theatre who ran in the rearranged King George at Kempton Park. I received quite a few emails and texts during the day when the horse hit 16/1 with all the major bookies and even 20/1 on Betfair with just under 5/1 available for the place.
We expressed our opinion that despite the small drift, that was still a big price and it seems quite a few of you went in again, especially on the Betfair place market. Riverside Theatre ran a good race, although that wasn’t the focus of events for 99% of the general betting public, finishing second at 10/1 after receiving another wave of support prior to the start of the race. We achieved an antepost price of 12/1.
The horse lost quite a bit of ground on the turn for home when approaching the lake. It appears that the ground was very soft at this point and as a result he seemed to be wasting energy going nowhere for a few strides, losing 5-6 lengths in the process. On the home straight he stayed on really well, passing the heavily odds-on favourite Kauto Star and finishing a clear second.
The winner, Long Run, was without doubt very impressive. I feel slightly frustrated that despite beating Kauto Star we did not win the race. The jockey, Sam Cohan, who gave Long Run a great winning ride, deserves all the praise. Nevertheless I will still not be backing him in the Gold Cup with Sam on board. The Gold Cup is a rough race where the fences are much tougher and come at you very quickly.
A decent profit was made on the antepost bet and congratulations to those clients that made decent money on the place.
Cheltenham – Day 2 Review

Our Cheltenham has been brilliant so far. With another two days, to go who knows what else might happen?
We have had four ante-post bets run over the two days (so far), resulting in three winners.
Day 1 of the festival and two out of the three ante-post bets landed. A profit was made, but we were so unlucky with Bensalem and we do feel a little annoyed over Khyber Kim (as does anyone whose horse finished second).
Bet 1 – Somersby, who we gave as a strong ante-post E/W bet, finishes 2nd after running an excellent race. Advised at 6/1 E/W, a profit made.
Bet 2 – Khyber Kim, advised at 9/1 E/W, got beat by Binocular who this time last week was not even in the race. Nevertheless a good profit made.
Bet 3 – Bensalem, advised at 6/1, fell two out when swinging on the bit and I am sure had it not fallen, it would have won.
Day 2 (today – Wednesday), and just one ante-post advice was running.
The horse was Peddlers Cross, advised at 9/1 weeks ago. As we were so close to landing a big payout yesterday, it is nice that we’ve had a little bit of extra luck today. We knew how good this horse and the work it was doing at home were; spot on inside information.
What ever happens now at the festival, we can’t make an overall loss but we still have three more ante-post selections running. One more winner would top it all off.

What a day! In fact, what a weekend! What a perfect weekend! Khyber Kim coming home at 16/1 for us in the big race was just fantastic. The tip was given Thursday night to members with the words “Horse working like a Trojan. Stable very bullish snap up the 16/1 ASAP”. The horse was backed into 9/1 on the day, gamble landed.
What a race. The horse pretty much went from last to first going away at the finish. The only thing Bettertipster clients and I have lost this weekend are our voices. Comments received from members reads as; “thank you so much Christmas paid for”, “Booking a Holiday”.
Just a brilliant two days around with around 40 points profit on Sunday. Add that with Saturday’s result (see below post) and we have a total of over 70 points in two days. You always hope for days like this and to hit that big one. This was Bettertipster’s members weekend and will not be forgotten in a hurry.
Only downside is the three day Cheltenham meeting is now over, but with the Hennessey just round the corner and some quality horses out most days the season really has lifted off.
So what have we got to look forward to this week? Well members could be involved in an all weather coup at an evening meeting. This one has been planned for a good while. Hopefully it will be release the handbrake time!
