The day started badly with the terrible news that our Grand National bet, Prince De Beauchene will miss the race because of a hip fracture. This was gut wrenching news and very hard to take. We really thought that the horse had a massive chance of winning the big one. We knew well before most people that Ruby Walsh would be the jockey. We also knew that the horse was thrown in at the weights and had a good stone in hand.

We backed Prince De Beauchene at 16-1. He was 7-1 favourite before today. It is very frustrating.

The day soon got better though thanks to African Story, who we backed early in the morning at a price of 7-4 / 13-8. We got the value and thought that this selection would be backed heavily with the subsequent news that came in. However, we did not think that it would go off as short as 5-6. Needless to say that African Story was a large gamble.

This time luck was on our side and there wasn’t a moment’s worry. African Story won by 6 lengths on the bridle. The race was put to bed in a matter of strides early in the home straight with Frankie Dettori barely moving a muscle. The 5-6 looked generous after the race; such was the manner of victory.

Next up was the antepost bet on Cocozza. Cocozza ran a disappointing race. This bet did not go to plan, with Cocozza coming out of the stalls awkwardly. He seemed almost to fly jump them. We lost a few lengths and Joe Fanning had to ride Cocozza to make the ground up.  This seemed to ignite the horse and we soon found ourselves in front with Cocozza pulling hard.

Two furlongs out the horse faded very tamely and was not really running any sort of race; maybe the ground did not suit.

On the whole the racing today, especially at Doncaster, was a total bookies benefit. The winners were priced at 50-1 / 12-1 / 25-1 / 7-1/ 14-1. It appears that the bookies made a killing on first day of the flat season.

For us it was a very volatile day. The main thing is that we made just over 4pts profit where many others would have done their conkers without fail.

This brings an end to a tough March. We turned the month round and finished about 7pts up. Whilst we’ve yet to do the final figures, I think we’d have been happy to take that half-way through March. The ‘Just info’ did very well with some cracking winners, hopefully that may have helped you top-up.

We have now broken through the 50pts barrier for the year. This was the first hurdle and it appears that all is going fairly well at this early stage, despite a relatively low amount of bets.

Poet’s Voice ran a horrible race and showed a terrible attitude, even biting another horse during the race after bit of a barging match. The horse had been working really at home going clear of some very good horses on the gallops. Our main concern going into this race was whether or not Poet’s Voice would settle, however it turned out not to be a problem as the horse did settle well.

From the gates Frankie held up our selection and all looked good as he was travelling well when turning into the straight. On the home run Dettori angled Poet’s Voice out for a clear run; it looked like the horse would just cruise up and join the leaders, but this never happened. Poet’s Voice did make up a few lengths up and joined a couple of other runners before getting a bump and subsequently biting Beacons Lodge.

Poet’s Voice finished plum last after being heavily eased when all chance had gone. It was a terrible run and nothing has come to light after the race. It maybe that the horse has lost its appetite for racing but does continue to work well at home as many horses do. Whatever the reason, losing 5pts like this is very disappointing. We are now 13.2pts up for the month but have until Wednesday to try and top that up and recoup yesterday’s loss.

The Just Info did well yesterday with the two McCain horses winning whilst Master Bond ran a good race to finish 2nd and Captain Dunne just missed out on a place.

First up was Top Cop; trainer Andrew Balding gave us a good word for his runner as he was keen for a win; the owner is the chairman of Salisbury racecourse. The horse ran a decent race and finished 2nd just beaten. Top Cop settled well and looked the winner inside the furlong pole where he just got his head in-front. Unfortunately the lack of experience cost us the race. The horse just wandered slightly once in front and did not really know what to do. We got headed close to home and just missed out.

We no longer speak to the Hannon yard after the Fort Bastion nonsense. If this yard say that the sky is blue & that the grass is green, we recommend that you check for yourself. The Stable had two runners in the race, with Richard Hughes on Daunt. Loads of money came for the other runner, Jacob Cats, who could not win this race. Low and behold Richard Hughes mount was pulled out and he got on Jacob Cats who landed a fantastic gamble from 8/1 in the morning into 15/8.

Our stronger bet of the day was on Terdaad, advised at 4pts win. Connections were very confident of a win and with the ride that Frankie gave the horse, it showed. From the off the jockey held Terdaad up 7 lengths behind the leaders. Turning for home we were beginning to question Frankie Dettori’s tactics but, as expected, he pressed the button and the horse made the ground up with ease hitting the front over a furlong out.

Terdaad went a couple of lengths clear and looked like an easy winner. Unfortunately the horse used up too much energy when making up the ground and was treading water at the finish. Thankfully we held on and the horse got the ride it deserved, such was the confidence of the stable. Terdaad could have easily been ridden a few lengths off the pace and won this race by 4 to 5 lengths. Maybe they were trying to teach the horse, either way it did not like the ride.

Terdaad went off at 2/1 after hitting 5/4 before the race, with the BOG bookies that will do nicely. Two points lost on Top Cop but 8pts won on Terdaad resulted in a six points profit on the day.

The jumps season has finally started to find its stride and some familiar names are making their season debuts.

It’s been a while since the last update, so what have we been up too?

In total we have placed ten bets, resulting in a fantastic 37 points profit to level stakes. Assuming you bet a modest £10 on each selection, a profit of £370 would be showing. Without giving the game away, members who backed to our recommendation stakes have shown larger profits.

It’s been a fantastic month that came to a climax at the weekend with the Breeders Cup. Earlier this month we’ve already landed some nice bets, including Presenting Forever winning first time out for us and more recently Tchico Polos at 7/2. Our notebook runners have also thrown up a few winners. However Saturday was the biggest pay day for BetterTipster. We had two runners going in the evening Breeders Cup meeting and we also backed Simenon E/W earlier in the day who ran a nice race finishing 3rd at 12/1.

We placed just two bets in the Breeders Cup meeting, both were antepost selections. Firstly we backed Uncle Mo, telling clients he was a solid bet. The message was quite simple about this runner; the horse is very special and would not lose. Uncle Mo was the winner as soon as the stalls opened, cantering to victory in 2nd gear. Uncle Mo could be the best horse we’ve seen in recent times; a brilliant horse that can run six furlongs like a sprinter whilst still having a good finish and the ability to stay a mile.

Our second antepost bet was on Dangerous Midge who really brought home the pennies, or should I say notes, when winning at 8/1. We were informed how well the horse had been working at Churchill Downs and that we should expect a real improvement. Dangerous Midge was specially kept fresh for this race, unlike other runners, whilst connections were very confident of not just running a good race but winning the big pot. Under a great ride by Frankie Dettori, Dangerous Midge did the business and we collected a fantastic bet at great odds.

All our bets are proofed to Clive Keeling of What Really Wins. Please see some of the member’s comments we received shortly after the big weekend:

“As always, thank you – you really are second to none. “

“ Many thanks for a great night, now I can go and book the skiing holiday, and buy the I Phone. The info you supply is certainly A 1, just hope they keep coming in over the winter months, it really is appreciated what you and your team have done for me.”

“I reckon you deserve a day off. High excitement last night. Well done and many thanks. As always with what was a new service to me six months ago I haven’t been going mad but my £2000 bank has now topped £4500. I’m sure many of your clients have made much more but I am gradually increasing my stakes and £68ew on Dangerous Midge was very rewarding.”

What a fantastic night of racing at the Breeders Cup! There were amazing scenes with Zenyatta and I don’t think we will witness anything like that again. The crowd stunned into silence, bringing some to tears and leaving others lost for words. I was cheering louder than ever before on the back straight, despite not having a bet in the race. Needless to say that my cheering caused a stir with the neighbours. It is a shame that the victory escaped her as I truly believe that Zenyatta deserved it.

As for us, a superb night with both antepost bets being landed. We started the day with Simenon who ran a great race by landing the E/W money and finishing 3rd at 12/1. We lost out on second place in the finish, something I feel may have been down to the fast start. We started the day with a place paying 4/1.

The Breeders Cup started for us with Uncle Mo. I really do think that Uncle Mo could be the best horse to come around in a long while. No other horse in the field was ever a danger as Uncle Mo humiliated some of the best horses in the world. My question is how a horse can run as fast as a top class six furlong sprinter but then produce a finishing kick over a mile in distance. It should not be possible; he was not even tested!

The horse never came out of second gear. If you can find any bookie offering 3/1 for the Kentucky Derby along with ‘no runner no bet’ then please tell me what foolish bookmaker offered you the bet! Uncle Mo is the hardest horse in the world to bear and landed us a nice 4pt win bet landed at 2/1.

After a good start came Dangerous Midge, who made the evening when landing the other antepost bet at 8/1 (2pts E/W). I was worried at the start of the race as I thought they were going a bit too quickly. Frankie Dettori was in 2nd for the majority of the race and looked in trouble on the turn for home as he had to ask the horse for a lot. Soon however, as they hit the straight, Dangerous Midge moved up a gear and made up 4 to 5 lengths and, with the full works from Frankie, won cosily in the end going away. Frankie said after the race the horse was just being lazy on the bend. A fantastic win for the Meehan stable and a long term targeted gamble landed.

This topped of a wonderful night and a great week with around
