The writing was on the wall before the race for Captain Dunne as conditions were significantly against us. The forecast was supposed to be for a dry day but heavy showers hit the track. The forecast was for good to firm to good all over.
It was fairly clear after the first race that the ground was cutting up, not the conditions we had hoped for. We were also facing a strong wind that left the front runners with a near impossible task; jockeys reported it very hard work up-front. Unfortunately for us Captain Dunne has only one way of racing, and that’s from the front. He did that and led until the furlong pole. For few seconds it looked good as everything else was being ridden whilst we were the last horse off-the-bit.
The horse still showed great pace by getting all others out of their comfort zone, but those efforts in these conditions always meant that we would be a sitting duck at the end of the race and with the inevitable we eventually faded into 5th place at the finish.

Poet’s Voice ran a horrible race and showed a terrible attitude, even biting another horse during the race after bit of a barging match. The horse had been working really at home going clear of some very good horses on the gallops. Our main concern going into this race was whether or not Poet’s Voice would settle, however it turned out not to be a problem as the horse did settle well.
From the gates Frankie held up our selection and all looked good as he was travelling well when turning into the straight. On the home run Dettori angled Poet’s Voice out for a clear run; it looked like the horse would just cruise up and join the leaders, but this never happened. Poet’s Voice did make up a few lengths up and joined a couple of other runners before getting a bump and subsequently biting Beacons Lodge.
Poet’s Voice finished plum last after being heavily eased when all chance had gone. It was a terrible run and nothing has come to light after the race. It maybe that the horse has lost its appetite for racing but does continue to work well at home as many horses do. Whatever the reason, losing 5pts like this is very disappointing. We are now 13.2pts up for the month but have until Wednesday to try and top that up and recoup yesterday’s loss.
The Just Info did well yesterday with the two McCain horses winning whilst Master Bond ran a good race to finish 2nd and Captain Dunne just missed out on a place.
June Review

On June 29, 2011
It’s going to be rather difficult not to turn this month’s review into a big sales pitch as it was so successful for us.
Two of the most important flat meetings took place in June: the Epsom Derby and, arguably the biggest, Royal Ascot. Lets start with the Derby meeting; we backed three horses, two of them were antepost. Firstly members were instructed to back Captain Dunne antepost who ran in the Epsom dash at 7/1. We had a very positive word after being told first-hand that the horse was still improving and that headgear would be applied because the trainer thought this would help him concentrate in the latter stages of the race.
It was a great start to the meeting as everything went to plan; Captain Dunne led from start to finish and landed the spoils as well as a great bet for members at 7/1. Even to small stakes this one bet alone would have paid for an entire months subscription. Next up was a strong selection; St Nicholas Abbey. So far this has been one of the biggest bets of the year for us as we were informed directly at the track by connections that the horse was back to his best. A strong win bet was advised at odds against. Clients had no worries as we watched St Nicholas Abbey win with plenty left in the tank even further increasing our profits for the meeting. Our only other bet at the meeting was Native Khan in the Derby who was advised at big odds antepost. The horse finished 5th but was only beaten by a couple of lengths.
All eyes were then on Royal Ascot where we had a antepost bet on a horse at 33/1. This bet was placed two weeks before Royal Ascot. Our first bet was a decent one on Shumoos who was just beaten in a photo finish; with a better draw the horse would have won. We then had three further bets that resulted in a loser and two placed E/W bets at 6/1 & 13/2.
Finally, on the last day of Royal Ascot, we had our antepost bet running in the Golden Jubilee. The horse we backed was Society Rock at 33/1. If you remember this horse finished 2nd in the same race last year but seemed to have lost his form since. We had a piece of first-hand racing information from the yard that stated the horse was now back to 100% for the first time this season and that his first two runs could be totally ignored. The horse was going so well at home it was a struggle to pull him up on the gallops.
In the build up to the race Society Rock was given little or no chance by the papers and pundits. However we knew that the horse had a chance if the appropriate breaks came. Society Rock was held up, as normal, but at two out the jockey asked Socity Rock to go through a very small gap and thankfully the horse put his head down and quickened immediately; making up lengths and hitting the front inside the final furlong to win under a fantastic ride by Pat Cosgrove.
Scenes of jubilation were had at BetterTipster towers with the phone immediately ringing from members who had landed a huge payout. Many people will never back a 33/1 winner, but to do it in one of the main sprint races of the year made it all the more sweet. Many phone calls and emails were received with clients winning up to six thousand pounds on this one bet alone as well as others buying new cars and nice holidays with the winnings. A fantastic Royal Ascot and a great profit made in June.
We were not quite finished though as on Saturday the 25th we were informed that Dominant was thought of being a group horse but had not shown his best ability as yet because he needed the soft ground and a flatter track. Dominant was highly fancied, the price was big at 6/1 and so we decided to send out the bet. The result was that Dominant won easily by 5 lengths easily. Another great bet landed and even more profits added.
To summarize, in June we make a profit upwards of 50pts and again keep our 100% monthly record this year. With only £10 stakes our June selections would have made a lovely £500 tax-free income.
June Breaking News…

June is off to a great start with three bets resulting in two winners so far. June is already paid for with Captain Dunne landing a super antepost bet at 7/1 in the Epsom Dash & a strong bet landed on St Nicholas Abbey 5/4 also bringing home the pounds. We’re a total of 17.5 points up already for the month and still have plenty of ammo for Royal Ascot.
Our only other bet was Native Kahn in the Derby beaten two lenghts into 5th at 14/1 antepost.

In total we made 17.5 pts at the Epsom meeting; a nice return and a solid start for June. Going forward we now have plenty of betting ammunition for June and Royal Ascot.
I thought that David Allen gave Captain Dunne a superb ride; it was perfect in every way. We knew everything would be won or lost on the break, and so it proved. Captain Dunne jumped out of the stalls and was able to grab the stand-side. At three out most jockeys were pushing away whilst Captain Dunne was running away without a care in the world. The last furlong was always going to be the worry because of the horse’s weight. The race certainly took it’s toll but David really got stuck in and the horse gave everything; crossing the line first and landing us a nice return. If only every bet went to script like this one!
We’re not sure where the horse will run next, but if he’s running off level-weights he must be worth a go at group 1 level.
The Derby was the biggest race of the day and also happened to be where we have our next bet. We backed Native Khan who ran an absolute cracker. Admittedly we were a bit unlucky not to get some type of return as we backed the horse that finished 5th however he was only beaten two lengths in total. If you said before the race that Native Khan would be beaten by two lengths but not placed we would all be gutted.
The horse travelled well but could not quite handle the dip in the course. He had to change his legs a few times but at three out I thought that things looked good. If being slightly critical I would have liked the horse a bit nearer the pace, but Native Kahn gave his all and made up loads of ground in the final two furlongs but could not stay the trip better than some. We were boxed in for the last 50 yards; with a clear run we might have got 3rd.
After the race Johnny said that he thinks the horse is still quite green and will improve again for the run, the Irish Derby could well be a target.
