Earlier today we mentioned that we would need bit of luck and it seems that this cursed today’s email.
We backed Wayward Prince after speaking with trainer Ian Williams. The horse’s prep had gone beautifully and a massive run was expected. Wayward Prince is a horse that has never fallen and jumps beautifully, at least until today.
Wayward Prince was lobbing along on the inside approaching the sixth or seventh fence (not exactly sure). The race hadn’t even got going when the horse crashes straight through the fence leaving a ruddy big hole in it; the race over before it started.
The jockey Dougie Costello asked for a big one, saw a stride, and in fairness did well to stay on top but that was race over for us without a run for our money.
It’s quite incredible that this keeps happening after such a great start to the month with St Nic Abbey & Cresswell Crusader winning.
We’ve had two burst blood vessels, numerous seconds and the horse at Uttoxeter who was cantering slipped on landing, lost 20 lengths, yet was only beaten by a head and now Wayward Prince today! You could not make it up.

We backed Dannanceys Hill 4pts win.
From the off our selection was handy and just about leading the field at a fair pace. At three furlongs out the rest of the field were soon struggling with the majority comfortably beaten off. Dannanceys Hill was still firmly on-the-bit with the jockey not asking any type of question.
It looked like a question of how far we would win by. The jockey asked the Dannanceys Hill to put the race to bed just inside the two pole. We went a couple of lengths clear but failed to really quicken. Coneygree, the eventual winner, picked up after looking well beaten on the turn for home and stayed on well showing a good pace to go past and win well.
Dannanceys Hill was performing well at the finish but we met a a decent horse. It was unfortunate that we ran into Coneygree, trained by M Bradstock whose not had a bumper winner in eight whole years and sends out half a dozen winners each season.
Coneygree is a half brother to Carruthers who needs all of three miles and more. On breeding Coneygree should have found this trip very much on the sharp side but it looks like the small stable have a good horse on their hands.
Donald McCain paid 160k for Dannanceys Hill and with the £400 won yesterday for second place it leaves only £159,600 left to pay back.

We backed Theologist, from the Dr Richard Newland stable, a couple of points E/W. This was our first bet from Dr Newland who is taking care of our syndicate horse.
Theologist ran a solid race, finishing 3rd; E/W money won. The horse got slightly outpaced at three out but jockey Jamie Moore kept on pushing away and stayed on nicely; jumping the last into third place.
It would have been fantastic to bag a winner with this new information on the first tip but it was clear the horse and jockey both gave everything.

Quick look back at yesterday’s account bet on Bowntobebad. The horse was travelling well during the early parts of the race but unfortunately stopped as if he ran into a brick wall. Bowntobebad lost ground very quickly and was allowed to walk back home in his own time. The cause of this poor performance was a burst blood vessel that caused the horse to bleed from the nose. If you watch the reply on ATR you can see this.
There’s nothing anybody can do when this happens; it’s really unlucky but can’t be predicted or prevented.
The Just Info did reasonably well; Somersby ran a cracker but again looks as if he needs three miles. Overturn won whilst Off The Wall was 3rd at a good price in the bumper. The Alan King horse was 4th. Turn Over Sivola is the horse to take out of the race; travelling well before blowing up in the final furlong.
Midnight Game also ran a solid race; the horse we backed for the Supreme Hurdle. Midnight Game was cantering into the last with only one other horse in contention; the two a long way clear. On landing his only rival landed sideways. A collision then proceeded and we lost all momentum and failed to get back up whilst also running green.
The trip over two miles four would be stretching Midnight Games stamina and the soft ground was not ideal. However this was a good run and shows the engine that the horse holds. Two miles on good ground will reveal the true ability of Midnight Game.

It’s time to have a look back at Sunday’s racing with our bet on Victors Serenade. The horse was travelling and jumping well when approaching five out. Our selection was placed in a handy 4th position and tucked in on the rail. Unfortunately we made a mess at the fence; hitting it hard and losing quite a few lengths. We still looked to be travelling well but kept on hitting each fence after.
Sam Thomas reported that the horse lost its confidence after the mistake and it put an end to our chances. He was really happy with how the horse travelled and the way the race was going. Unfortunately you can’t afford to make mistakes in these races and again it cost us, just like Universal Soldier.
