We decided to advise one bet yesterday which was on Safari Adventures at a huge price. Without doubt the jockey attempted to make all, bounding ahead of Nacarat and the like and the rivals never even attempted to go with him at that pace. At four out we looked in with a reasonable chance of a place. As we went 6 lengths clear and were jumping really well thing eventually caught up with us and in the end the pace set was never going to be sustained. As was likely, Safari Adventures was caught by the field and faded, but with only a very small staked advised at 33/1 there are no hard feelings.

I have a feeling that the jury is still out over whether the horse will get three miles or not. Safari Adventures did trade at 8/1 at one point during the race, a good trade could have been locked in.

Review of our account bet yesterday on Arabella Boy.

The race unfolded as expected with our selection cantering two out and joining the leaders. The race looked as if it was in the bag with a safe jump at the last, but Arabella Boy just got a little close making his only error of the race. We lost a bit of momentum whilst the only danger Ballymak was running on.

Paul Carberry completed a good ride by getting stuck into the horse and picked him up to win. It may have been a different result if Nina was riding. The horse returned 4/1, with Ladbrokes & VC Bet, both being best odds guaranteed bookmakers which comes with an added bonus, 8 points profit on the day.

We had one account bet today that has left us unlucky not to get the E/W money.

Soldatino was in a nice position jumping the 3rd, or so I thought, travelling in a nicely settled position. The horse made a bad mistake at the hurdle was slightly distracted as a result, dropping us back to last place and losing around 6 lengths. The jockey did well at his determined job of asking the horse to get back in contention straight away. Soldatino responded in turn and was soon in the first half dozen again.

From then on the horse pulled quite hard as he was asked to quicken from making the mistake and did not want to slow down, Soldatino then pulled away for the remainder of the race. That is until at two out, we were bang in contention and jumping the last we were in 4th place with our eyes firmly set on the E/W money. But Soldatino faded from this point on and in the last 20 yards we lose out on our position when closing for home. We eventually finished 5th, with 3 lengths in between is and the winner.

If we would have jumped a clear round then a placing would have been a certainty. However the racing world in-particular is not ideal and you have to jump consistently well in these races. We had the correct strategy for the race, it’s just a shame that it didn’t come to fruition. Our contact spoke with J Quinn, trainer of the winner, Recession Proof who gave us good word for his two runners the other week, both of which won. He thought Soldatino was the one they had to beat, as did Brian Ellison trainer of Bothy, and hence we made the decision that we did.

Just a word about the BetterTipster greyhound who is off to Birmingham on Saturday afternoon for a practice school before going round Nottingham for her first trial. She’s been working well and passing other dogs at home when chasing that drag looking rabbit thing.

Our selection, Loyalty, finished 3rd; beaten by a length at 9/2. Plenty of money came for the horse late-on and with the early price that we secured at 6/1 we did manage to return a small profit on the E/W.

It was the slow pace that I think cost us the race. Loyalty needs cover and has a good burst of speed coming off of a good clip. The jockey found himself in front a little bit too early but continued to push for the horse ahead that was in front until the last 100 yards. We beat all the fancied horses but a couple of outsiders did us close to home.

It was horrible to see the unfortunate events at Newbury unfold today. Two horses were killed in the parade ring. It seems they were electrocuted by an underground cable that made contact with an electric rod in the ground; nothing has been confirmed yet. Three other horses also collapsed but luckily survived.

The meeting was rightly abandoned, but this just adds to the problems of horses needing a run before Cheltenham. A very sad day for horse racing, the sport really could have done without this.

Regarding our selections today, Zaidpour finished second. He again did not show the form that was seen on his second start. Zaidpour ran a similar race to that on the time we were beaten last time. There certainly isn’t the same grace in his travelling style that we have seen when he was winning a group one race by 12 lengths. It was massively disappointing as he is surely better than a second place.
The info came from our main source of information who was at the Mullins yard in midweek filming a piece for Cheltenahm. He watched Zaidpour work with Bishopsfurze who is top class. Zaidpour beat him by a huge margin at the time without even being shaken up. That piece of work is why Mullins said he is possibly the best horse he’s ever trained, and Bishopfurze is seriously good.

For whatever reason he’s not replicating his home performance with that on the track. We know he’s fully capable of doing it on the course, so this really is a huge disappointment. Everybody at the yard was expecting the horse to win this in a hack canter. We very rarely release a bet as strong as this, but the information was particularly strong, reinforced by first hand experience from one of the top trainers in the business. The money flooded on, as we thought, and Zaidpour went off at Evens. Hopefully you may have hedged your bets in some form prior to the off as we had the early price of 6/4.

The other horse we backed was given no chance. As was said in a precautionary email; you can’t come from off the pace at Warwick. The jockey was caught napping on the turn for home where the leaders kicked on and as a result we could never be put in contention. After a point at about two out the horse was not even ridden as the race was over.

Today was certainly not our best day, but we don’t have many setbacks like this and still show profit for the year. We have lost today but it’s only takes a 6/1 winner with a couple of points placed, as we did with The Giant Bolster, and we have it back with profit. Not the end of the world but not a good day by any means
