It’s simple; if you don’t jump you don’t win. Both of our selections from yesterday jumped poorly and it was surprising to see Stoney’s Treasure make several mistakes after such a promising jumping debut. Stoney’s Treasure did well to finish fourth in the end, not beaten by far but its back to the schooling ring for him. Our notebook horse Vino Griego ran well in the same race and looked the winner but idled on the run in.
The bigger disappointment yesterday was Silver By Nature. We didn’t get close to a run for our money. The grey hit the second fence hard and lost ground at the 3rd when two horses came down right in front of him. After the race the jockey said that these two instances caused the horse to lose a lot of confidence. Due to the fast pace that the field were travelling at he was not able to get Silver By Nature competitive after the early mistake. What’s more the horse returned with a cut on his hind leg reportedly caused during the mishap at the second fence.
Peddlers Cross did very well on the Champion Hurdle scene. I will be honest and say that I did not think the horse would be quick enough after being suited to a longer trip in the previous season.
The pending cold snap about to hit UK jump racing maybe quite limited. The AW should still be fine and our main info guy will be at attendance for most of the fixtures if the jumps meetings are called off. All that we can to is watch, wait and see.

Two bets and one winner totalling just over couple of points profit on the day. Racing Demon gave a mediocre performance and finished 5th. I was quite surprised the jockey tried to make all and a bit of cover would have been nice, but would probably not have made any difference to the result.
On a brighter note, Jago River did win for us at a bigger price than advised. Prior to the race the exchanges were bizarre with some decent lay bets going on our horse. At forty minutes before the off, Jago River was 11/10 and when the bet was advised 11/8 was widely available. The support came for Mini Beck before the off, who was backed into clear favouritism but was no danger too our selection. Jago River hit the front at two out and stayed there returning 6/4; a price we were able to secure having taken best odds guaranteed.

We backed Slew Charm after being given a positive word from our connections who were on the course at Lingfield. After being advised at 5/1 E/W, our selection received support in the betting markets and eventually returned as 100/30 Favourite.
Slew Charm ran a fair race and finished 3rd, effectively leaving us in a break-even situation. Speaking with connections after the race, the jockey said the horse would be better going the other way round as he could not quicken when required on the heavy the ground. At two out I thought we were going to collect as the horse had jumped into the lead but just could not find that extra gear when required. Ultimately no damage was done, but it does show that the information was accurate due to the support our selection received in the betting markets.

Good news about Rebel Rebellion who is fine after his run yesterday. I hope that this will be a one-off. It has also been reported that the horse choked. It is a pity our winning sequence came to an end on a horse had significant potential in this race. The below is take from the Racing Post:
Former Irish point winner Rebel Rebellion won his bumper on Southwell’s Fibresand last term and showed useful form behind the promising Megastar either side of that success. Very well backed on this hurdling debut and first outing for Paul Nicholls, things looked good for his supporters as he effortlessly made up ground near the seventh flight. However, as soon as he was asked for an effort shortly after, it was clear he was in trouble and surely something went amiss.
It mentions Noble Alan who was given a poor ride. The horse travelled with ease and looked the winner some way from home. At two out the jockey gave Noble Alan no sight of the fence as he tried to come between two horses. This resulted in an error and we lost momentum from there on in. Despite this the horse did manage to grab 3rd place and I am sure a big prize can be won by this horse.

Today we had our first account bet of the week on Marino Prince who duly won by 15 lengths on-the-bit. This keeps our 100% record going so far in November with 8 out of 8. Normally we would have been really pleased but today was a bad day for horse racing in the UK with three horses fatally injured and one still in a bad condition.
A good friend of mine who has shares in Peter Grimes who lost his horse today after a sickening injury. Not going into detail but it was a horrific incident to watch. We all love horse racing as a sport but days like this brings it home that betting is secondary to any horse and jockeys well being. Thoughts with all owners and trainers involved with the horses today whom sadly lost their life.
