A non-eventful day for us. We got the E/W money on Excel Bolt, but then lost on Hypnotized who ran a stinker.

Excel Bolt ran a great race and was just beaten after racing all on his own. Not really sure if this was a good idea or not, as the winner of the race came out of stall 2 and we were in 1. We went for the value selection and got the two favourites beaten, but could not quite get the head in front where it matted.

Hypnotized; I did say Jamie had to get it right on this horse and he was keen to get the rail but was too short of room and hence got bumped a few times. The horse never got in the race at all. Disappointing, as he had been working really well at home. I would like to see more positive tactics.

Just about level on the day.

Our account bet ran a solid race, finishing 3rd. Mount Athos got slightly outpaced two furlongs from home, but really stayed on well. Another few strides and the race could have been his. The horses’ breeding suggest another step up in trip will suit. We backed the horse at 6/1, just after the money went on. Mount Athos returned 9/1, which was even better for us with Ladbrokes paying best price guaranteed. Shame we hit the cross bar again with a big priced runner, but it was a winning bet with the E/W money.

All three bets showed a profit today. It’s a shame that Shaluca could only get the E/W money and finished 2nd. I thought that out of the two Shaluca was going to win, but we met a good one.

Tillietudlem started the day off winning nicely under Keiran Fallon. The horse steadied in midfield for the majority of the race. Fallon kicked on around two out and the race was soon put to bed. Tillietudlem won easily going away.

Shaluca, as mentioned, finished 2nd at 8/1. Then our last bet, Master Charm, won under a great ride from Richard Johnson. There was a scary moment jumping the 2nd, as a horse behind just landed on Master Charm’s heel. If you watched the race, you would have seen Johnson looking down at the horse a couple of times to check it was alright. Thankfully all was well and Master Charm won the race with any amount in hand.

Fencing Master ran no sort of race after being backed heavily before the off. The SP was 9/2 and we got on at 6/1. The horse was pushed along but after couple of furlongs faded very quickly. O’Brien was interviewed after the race and said the horse was found to be clinically ill by the vet.

Peponi was also backed well, finishing with an SP of 5/2. The horse finished in 3rd, beaten less than a length. The horse looks like a galloper that can’t quicken. Peponi hit the front, two from home and it looked like the race was over. Unfortunately the horse just galloped all the way to the line at the same pace. I am not sure what they can do with this horse now, it seems the only options are either a step up in trip, or maybe a lower grade race.

Our first bet of the week today was on Avrilo. The horse did not let us down and won at 4/1. Avrilo was ridden right up with the pace and won nicely in the end going away. I am pleased for connections as this was the horses’ first win in 28 attempts and they were kind enough to speak with us.
