Layla’s Dancer again failed to show his true running. I think for the first time ever we will take a horse out of the notebook. Richard Fahey was hugely disappointed today. This horse was one of Richards’ main hopes of the season and he thought it would really go places. The horse was backed well throughout the day and finished 4th in the end. I could not understand the tactics though, usually the horse makes all, but this time was settled in the midfield. Even so, the horse showed no final burst of pace. We can’t keep faith with a horse that has let us down twice now, even with the comments from the trainer. I will update if anything comes to light.

Askar Tau ran a shocker. It turned out to be a very poor run and the jockey reported that the horse nearly fell asleep in the stalls whilst running with no spark. Hopefully something will come to light.
Society Rocks won cosily. With half a furlong to go I thought it would be jockey rant time again as the horse was boxed in but pulling double. Thankfully a gap appeared and the race was won in a matter of strides. The SP was slightly bigger at 9/2 than if backed with a standard bookie. Hopefully you got on at best price guaranteed; certainly most online bookmakers offer it. Betfair was 9/2 when the email sent so the price difference isn’t particularly great.

Our bet today on Conceptual Art (advised E/W) finished 3rd. The horse broke well, but got caught out on the bend as the two leaders went for home. Ours’ ran all the way to the line and was returned at 13/2. Ladbrokes pay best price so we got a few extra pennies back.

Yesterday Bunce finished 4th despite being thought of as one of the best 2 year olds in the yard. It was mayhem at the start of the race, with many of the runners playing up and some horses being in the stalls for an unacceptable 7 minutes. Bunce became very warm and had to be calmed down in the stalls despite lots of trouble going on either side. Bunce ran ok, finishing well clear of the 5th horse and the rest of the field. The horse is thought of being a lot better than this run suggests. That does not help us though at this moment in time. The other jockeys in Twist Magic’s race tried to get the horse beaten early on, and the planned worked. Twist Magic was never really happy being taken on for the lead, coming home 3rd in the end.

Yesterday didn’t go to plan with Contradiktive resulting in another huge gamble being turned over. In the last couple of weeks I have never seen so many big gambles go pear shaped. Contradiktive was backed yesterday from 6/1 early doors, into 5/4 favourite at the off. This results in another massive punt going wrong. This was a typical Tim Vaughan gamble, the horse was fully expected to win then go and notch up a sequence. I haven’t heard what went wrong as of yet. The horse ran no sort of race at all. On the bright side, at least our selections are turning into substantial gambles and this alone is a testimony of the confidence behind them. Dorback ran ok, and finished 3rd beaten by a couple of lengths. The horse was little slow out the stalls whilst the winner made all.
